SHAH ALAM - Former United Kingdom (UK) prime minister Liz Truss has branded Joe Biden as a "weak president" of the United States (US).
In an interview with British news channel Sky News as she visited the US for the Republican National Convention in support of former US president Donald Trump, Truss said she did not support Biden.
"I do not support Biden. I think he has been a weak president of the US. I want Trump to win," she said.
She said Trump was "defiant" and showed "strength and fortitude" after the attempted assassination of him.
She said it was clearly the responsibility of the putative assassin and security services for what had happened.
Trump was the target of an apparent assassination attempt at a Pennsylvania rally, last week, days before he was to accept the Republican nomination for a third time.
It was reported that a barrage of gunfire set off panic and Trump was shot in the ear. He was surrounded by the Secret Service and hurried to his SUV as he pumped his fist in a show of defiance.
Truss whose premiership lasted for only 49 days said she was relieved that Trump managed to survive.
"I think one thing is at show is how strong Trump is and I think that’s what America needs now.
"The ability of the sniper to get on the roof undetected—there needs to be a full investigation into what happened.
"We're here at the convention this week. President Trump is going to be speaking.
"I think it's reminiscent of what Mrs Thatcher did at the Brighton conference after the IRA tried to remove her," she said bringing up a similar incident that happened to longest-serving British prime minister of the 20th century Margaret Thatcher, who was also the first woman prime minister who survived an assassination attempt by the Provisional IRA in the 1984 Brighton hotel bombing.
Truss' tenure as the prime minister began on Sept 6, 2022 when she accepted an invitation from Queen Elizabeth II to form a government, succeeding Boris Johnson.
However, her premiership ended 49 days later on Oct 25 upon her resignation
