SHAH ALAM - In a scene reminiscent of a Final Destination movie, a 21-year-old woman was critically injured when logs plummeted from a lorry while she was stopping at a traffic light at the Bendahara Intersection of Jalan Gua Musang-Kuala Krai, yesterday.
The victim, Siti Norelyana Kamaruzan was thrown off her motorcycle due to the impact of a log that fell from the lorry that overturned on the adjacent road.
The incident occurred at 11.23am while she was on her way to work in Bandar Utama Gua Musang.
The accident unfolded when the lorry carrying a load of logs lost control and overturned while taking a corner, sending logs tumbling onto the road and directly onto Siti's motorcycle.
She was immediately rushed to the Gua Musang Hospital, where her condition was reported as unstable.
A 2.34-minute video of the incident, which has since gone viral, showed the moment the lorry overturned and the ensuing chaos as road users rushed to help.
The video captured the harrowing scene of Norelyana trapped between a pickup truck and the fallen logs, with bystanders working together to move the pickup truck and free her before she was taken to the hospital by an ambulance.
The victim's fiancé, Nik Amnan Arif Nik Anuwar, 22, described his shock after receiving a call from a friend who witnessed the accident.
"I managed to see my fiancé, who was receiving treatment in the Emergency Unit at Gua Musang Hospital and the doctor informed me that her condition was still unstable.
"I am still in shock over the incident. Please pray for her safety," he said when met by reporters at the Gua Musang Hospital yesterday.
Meanwhile, Gua Musang district police chief Superintendent Sik Choon Foo confirmed the incident and said an investigation was ongoing to determine the cause of the lorry's overturning.
