SUNGAI BAKAP - The mother of Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate, Che Refiah Zakaria, 79, was among the first to cast her vote in the Sungai Bakap State Assembly By-Election at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Duri on Saturday morning.

The elderly woman arrived in a wheelchair, assisted by family members and Election Commission staff who took her to the polling station as soon as the voting process began.

Che Refiah fulfilled her voting responsibility at 8.05am before being escorted out.

10 minutes later, PN candidate Abidin Ismail arrived to cast his vote at the same polling station and managed to meet his mother.

The Deputy President of the Nibong Tebal Pas Area then shook hands with his visibly emotional mother.

"Why didn’t you wait, mum? Have you been waiting long? Why are you crying?” Abidin asked.

Che Refiah seemed to want to hide her emotions and then smiled.

Abidin then asked his mother for permission to go cast his vote and meet other voters at the school before Refiah was taken out of the polling centre.
