Positive voter response to Abidin's campaign in Sungai Bakap
SUNGAI BAKAP - Voters in the Sungai Bakap by-election are urged to express their protest against the government's targeting of diesel subsidies by voting on July 6.
Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Abidin Ismail warned that the diesel subsidy targeting is believed to be contributing to an increase in the cost of living, particularly burdening the lower-income group.
"The people need to show their discontent with the government’s implementation of the diesel subsidy targeting, which has reportedly led to a rise in market prices," he said while campaigning in the Sungai Bakap area on Sunday.
During his campaign, several traders voiced their concerns about rising goods prices, which they attributed to the diesel subsidy targeting.
"Diesel prices have increased, causing goods prices to rise. Traders said they had no choice but to raise prices to cover their costs," Abidin said.
The Nibong Tebal Pas vice president also noted that his campaign has progressed smoothly.
"Alhamdulillah, I have received positive responses from voters," he said.
In the Sungai Bakap by-election, Abidin faces a one-on-one contest against PKR candidate Dr Joohari Ariffin.
The Election Commission (EC) has set July 6 as the voting date for the Sungai Bakap by-election, following the death of Nor Zamri Latiff on May 24.
In the Penang state election last August, Zamri from Pas defeated PKR's Nurhidayah Che Rose with a majority of 1,563 votes.
