Engage with current students or alumni, participate in university social media groups, and compare different universities' program offerings. Craft a university journey that reflects your unique aspirations, rather than conforming to trends or external pressures.

3. Explore campus life beyond academics

University life extends beyond academics, contributing significantly to personal development. Investigate the extracurricular activities and social opportunities available at prospective universities.

For those considering studying abroad, familiarise yourself with the host country's culture to ensure it matches your expectations. Resources like Study UK provide valuable insights into immersing yourself in the cultural fabric of the United Kingdom (UK) and making the most of your experience.

4. Consider scholarships for studying abroad

Higher education is a substantial investment, but scholarships can make it more affordable. Explore funding opportunities from both government and private sectors for local and international studies.

Resources like the British Council’s Study UK website offer comprehensive information to help you determine if studying in the UK is the right choice for you.

5. Attend higher education events

Many universities host events for prospective students, such as open days and briefings. These events are excellent opportunities to gather essential information, interact with peers, and make informed decisions.

If you have considered all these tips, and you are looking to pursue your studies in the UK, the British Council Malaysia is hosting its annual Study UK Pre-departure briefing from June 21 to June 22 from 10am to 5.30pm at the British Council Malaysia, Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.

This event offers interactive sessions and activities to prepare students for studying and living in the UK, covering visa applications, travel preparations, accommodation, finances and more.

Country Director of British Council Malaysia, Jazreel Goh emphasised the importance of this briefing and highlighted that starting a new course and moving to an overseas country is a significant undertaking.

"We know that students and parents will have lots of questions. The Pre-departure briefing is an opportunity for students to hear from UK Visas and Immigration, UK alumni and UK institutional representatives about some of the key things to prepare, what to expect from their UK studies, and how to make the most of their time in the UK,” she said.
