PETALING JAYA - The sister of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin's mother was relieved when the 29-year-old woman did not make a guilty plea at the Magistrate's Court here on Wednesday.
His sister, who refused to be named, also believed that Malaysians who waited for updates on the case also felt the same way.
"My family members and I came to court today from Damansara, to get the latest developments regarding the case.
"We will come back tomorrow," said the 42-year-old sister.
Meanwhile, the grandfather of the autistic child, Zahari Mohd Reba, 56, only responded briefly when asked by the media, after learning that his daughter-in-law had not confessed to the murder case.
"Yes (nodding in relief). Alhamdulillah, Insya-Allah, all family members are strong, we will come to the court again tomorrow.
"I don't want to give any statement, I leave everything to the lawyer," he said.
On Dec 6, 2023, Zayn Rayyan was found dead in a river, near the Idaman Apartment area, Damansara Damai at 10pm.
The victim's body was found by a group of residents who carried out a search operation.
The victim was previously reported missing in his residential area before being found lying in the river about 200 metres from his residential block.
The police confirmed that the victim was believed to have been killed following an autopsy finding injuries to the child's neck and body that were related to criminal acts.
Following that, the child's parents were remanded for 13 days starting June 1 to assist in the investigation.
