PETALING JAYA – Two lawyers claimed that the police applied to the Magistrate's Court here on Wednesday to obtain a guilty plea from the parents of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matin on charges of murdering the autistic child.
Lawyer Fahmi Abd Moin said the police allegedly made the application under Section 26(1) of the Evidence Act 1950 during a closed proceeding before Magistrate Zhafran Rahim Hamzah.
He said another lawyer, Mahmud Jumaat, was allowed to enter to follow the proceeding and objected to the application.
He said based on the law, the code was not explicitly stated in any clear procedure.
"Due to the lack of specific provisions for making such an application, it is very prejudicial to our two clients.
"We objected because the application could undermine the defence of our clients later if they are charged in court,” he said.
