KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysiakini has achieved a historic milestone by winning its first Kajai Award, along with two gold prizes at the 2023 Malaysia Press Institute (MPI) - Petronas Malaysian Journalism Awards, tonight.
Journalists S. Vinothaa, Ooi Choon Nam and Affan Amrish Mohd Jalani won the prestigious award for their work on a three-part series that investigated the plight of stateless children in Sabah who were forcibly separated from their parents and put up for adoption.
Vinothaa also won first place in the Best Investigative Reporting category with her story titled "Exposed: Shackles of Rampant Modern-Day Slave Trading."
She took home a RM10,000 cash prize, a trophy and a certificate.
The online news portal also won the Best Multimedia Journalism category for their report "State Polls: How Far Can the ‘Green Wave’ Go?."
Also present at the event were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, MPI president Datuk Yong Soo Heong and Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.
