SHAH ALAM - The arrest of six-year-old Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin’s parents on Friday were made following intelligence conducted by the police.
Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the arrest of the two suspects was carried out for investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
"The arrest was made based on intelligence from the day of the incident until now.
"This arrest was carried out to help the investigation," he told Sinar on Saturday.
Hussein added that the suspects were remanded for a week for further investigation, including involving the motive of the victim's murder.
"Details and further information related to the investigation cannot be revealed yet, any developments will be communicated later," he said.
The couple were arrested in Puncak Alam at about 11am yesterday before being remanded for seven days at the Petaling Jaya Magistrate's Court on Saturday.
Magistrate Azura Mohd Saad issued the remand order following the application from the police.
On Dec 6 last year, the autistic child was found dead near a river at his home in Damansara Damai at 10pm.
Zayn Rayyan’s body was found by a group of residents who carried out a search operation.
The victim was previously reported missing in his residential area before being found lying near the river about 200 metres from his residential block.
The police confirmed that the victim was believed to have been killed following an autopsy finding injuries to the child's neck and body that were related to criminal acts.
