SHAH ALAM - Kuala Lumpur has been chosen as the seventh-best city in the world for food, with Nasi Lemak named the top must-try dish, followed by Thai Tom Yam soup and Roti Canai.
The ranking was released by a London-based lifestyle magazine on Wednesday.
Its writer in Kuala Lumpur, Ng Su Ann, also described Malaysia's capital as bustling and renowned for its diverse culinary landscape, shaped by Malay, Chinese and Indian influences over centuries.
"Spend time at kopitiams, mamak stalls and night markets to taste our world-famous street food like laksa, Roti Canai and Nasi Lemak.
"From cafes to omakases, nightclubs to bars with skyline views, the food offerings in this city have more to offer than ever before,” she said.
Ng also shared dining spots she considered worth booking, namely Pickle Dining and Kai, a restaurant featuring flavours from across the Malay Archipelago.
TimeOut also ranked Naples, Italy, known for its Margherita pizza, as the best food city in the world, followed by Johannesburg, which offers traditional South African dishes, and Lima, Peru, in third place.
Five other Asian cities on the list include Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; Beijing, China; Bangkok, Thailand; Mumbai, India; and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
