More than 10,000 students absent from SPM 2023 exam

SHAH ALAM – A total of 10,160 candidates out of the 383,685 new candidates for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2023 were absent from the examination.

Education Director-General Azman Adnan stressed that the issue of absenteeism needed to be addressed and investigated so that intervention measures could be implemented.

"We will investigate the reasons why these candidates did not attend the SPM 2023 examination, especially after a significant decrease in the number of candidates compared to 2022.

"We will examine each case individually and interventions will be carried out to address this matter effectively," he said during a media briefing on the announcement of the SPM 2023 results analysis at the Ministry of Education (MoE) here today.

For the record, a total of 14,858 or 3.8 per cent out of 388,832 new candidates for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2022 did not attend the examination last year.
