SHAH ALAM – Parents are central figures in a family, but everything changes when they decide to get a divorce.
The mother has to work hard to provide a better life for her children, often leaving them at a relative's house.
A victim who was raped by her uncle, Aisyah, said that since childhood, she and her siblings had been close to their uncle, whom they called Pak Usu.
She said Pak Usu initially provided much guidance and love, just like a father.
"My parents had long been divorced. When Pak Usu was around, I shared all my problems with him without any negative thoughts.
"Until one day, when I had a fight with my boyfriend and wanted to call him, but my phone was broken. So, I decided to borrow Pak Usu's phone even though it was already 3am," she said.
Aisyah said that Pak Usu took her to the guest bedroom under the pretext of listening to her problems so as not to disturb her aunt who was sleeping.
"I was sad and poured my heart out to Pak Usu. At that moment, he seemed to try to comfort and calm me. I never expected he would do such a thing to me," she said.
Aisyah revealed that night was the darkest moment in her life as she was raped, leaving her unwilling to talk to anyone, including her mother.
Aisyah further stated that her brother, noticing the change in her behaviour, insisted that she report the incident to the police after learning the truth.
"My brother pressured me to make a police report because if I told my mother, she might not believe me. After making the report, Pak Usu was arrested, tried in court and imprisoned," she said.
However, due to the incident, Aisyah, who was already 18 years old at the time, was ostracised by her family, who viewed her as the one who destroyed Pak Usu's marriage, even though Pak Usu himself admitted guilty in court.
"I was traumatised because I was blamed by the whole family for supposedly ruining their household," she added.
