SHAH ALAM - Selangor FC (SFC) player Faisal Halim, who suffered fourth-degree burns, may be discharged from a private hospital here earlier than expected, possibly this week.
This decision depends on the hospital surgeon's assessment after the 26-year-old player underwent his fourth surgery on Monday.
SFC Sports Medicine Head Dr Muhammad Hazwan Khair shared this development, saying that Faisal's condition needs to be thoroughly reviewed after the surgery.
The procedure involved split skin grafting, which is the final step before Faisal's release from the medical centre.
"Today (Monday), Faisal underwent his fourth surgery, and it is understood that the procedure began at 9am.
"We need to wait for 48 to 72 hours to assess his status after the surgery.
"Insyallah, this is the final surgery, and the decision for an earlier discharge depends on the surgeon's assessment and Faisal's condition," Dr Hazwan said when met by the media at the hospital on Monday.
After his discharge, Faisal will undergo musculoskeletal rehabilitation, focusing on his performance. Faisal is eager to be discharged, he added.
Dr Hazwan also noted that Faisal is optimistic about his recovery, similar to other patients who wish to recover quickly.
"He is optimistic and, like other patients, does not want to stay in the hospital for long," he said.
On the psychological recovery process for the Harimau Malaya winger, Dr Hazwan stated that this will be discussed with the National Sports Institute (ISN).
