SUNGAI PETANI - Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) needs to come forward and provide an explanation regarding the hosting of a private party in its train carriage, claimed to be the first of its kind in Southeast Asia.
Umno Kedah information chief Datuk Shaiful Hazizy Zainol Abidin said that the action was inconsistent with the norms of decency and the eastern culture of Malaysian society.
He said the action did not reflect Malaysia as an Islamic country and did not uphold Malay customs and traditions.
"It is very disappointing when the name is Keretapi Tanah Melayu, but it allows wild parties full of alcohol and indecent behaviour. What message is KTMB trying to convey to the people—that we are no longer Malay?
"It is even more outrageous when it is said that even a surau (prayer room) is also one of the locations of the party. This is going too far! Places that should be sacred and clean are allowed for shoe usage, party’s games and alcohol," he claimed.
He said that an explanation needed to be given regarding how KTMB could overlook such a matter.
"Even though KTMB has indeed allowed the renting of train carriages for personal purposes, strict conditions must be put in place to avoid tarnishing the image and name of KTMB itself.
"I also hope that this matter can be resolved as soon as possible," he said.
Previously, there was a viral social media post regarding the hosting of a private party in a KTMB carriage, which claimed to be the first time such a trendy party has been held in Southeast Asia.
The 'Pinkesh' party held openly showed guests being served alcoholic drinks and various foods that were not synonymous with Malaysian people's culture and customs.
