KUALA LUMPUR — Ever wondered what weird things end up in the sewerage system?
Indah Water Konsortium Sdn Bhd’s (IWK) team has discovered phones, sanitary pads, tissues, and even diapers stuck in the sewerage.
Its corporate communications head Wan Esuriyanti Wan Ahmad urged the public to stop flushing foreign items down the toilet as it could cause serious damage to the sewerage system.
"Don’t throw anything in the toilet bowl, not even toilet tissues. It will clog the toilet and by then, it is your responsibility.
"When we enter the area of the sewerage system, our operational team could find many absurd things, such as handphones, sanitary pads, tissues and even diapers, you name it,” she added.
These items, Wan Esuriyanti said, mess up not just one’s home’s system, but also the entire underground sewerage network.
"Our storage parts are all underground and we have had these pipes since the Independence Day,” she said.
On a positive note, Wan Esuriyanti praised water bill subscribers for their dedication, with a 93 per cent collection rate in the past year.
"It shows that our consumers are very responsible in paying their water bills,” she said.
