BENTONG - A video circulating on social media depicting a group of individuals engaging in a 'picnic' session and cooking at a petrol station in Genting Highlands, Pahang, has triggered criticism from netizens and raised concerns about safety.
The one-minute-two-second clip captures several individuals socialising while cooking instant noodles using a portable gas stove.
Despite the arrival of a police patrol car at the petrol station, the group continues their activities, seemingly undeterred by the presence of law enforcement.
Comments from netizens condemned the group for disregarding safety protocols by using gas stoves in potentially hazardous environments.
A Facebook user, Nadia Jefry questioned the rationale behind the group's actions and stressed the potential consequences of their behaviour.
"It's concerning to see both men and women engaging in such behaviour.
"While others are refuelling their vehicles with petrol, they are casually cooking nearby.
"If an explosion were to occur, who would bear the consequences?
"This is not the appropriate setting to showcase culinary skills," she said.
Another Facebook user Muhamad Fauzan Bob urged the group to consider the potential risks before undertaking such activities.
"The audacity to cook with an open flame at a petrol station is alarming.
"While nothing may happen if all goes well, the consequences of an explosion could be catastrophic, affecting a radius of over 500 metres.
"Have you considered the presence of underground petrol pipelines leading to fuel tanks?
"Exercise caution and common sense before engaging in such activities," he said.
Bentong district police chief Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar said that no police reports have been filed thus far regarding the incident depicted in the social media clip.
