Peaceful voting process in KKB by-election, says EC deputy chairman

HULU SELANGOR - Election Commission (EC) deputy chairman Dr Azmi Sharom praises the smooth-sailing voting process during the Kuala Kubu Baharu (KKB) by-election at the polling centre in Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Kuala Kubu Bharu, here, today.

"The voting process is running smoothly and peacefully. This time I did not see any problems.

"The access for senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PwD) at the places I visited was also good," he said.

Azmi said the voter turnout was at 26 per cent as of 11am adding that he hoped that the turnout could reach around 60 per cent until the voting closes.

He added that the result was expected to be announced at around 9pm.

The KKB by-election, which saw a four-cornered contest, was held following the death of its incumbent, Lee Kee Hiong, 58, on March 21 due to cancer.

All 18 polling centres with 74 voting streams were opened simultaneously starting at 8am and will be closed at 6pm.
