SHAH ALAM – Dewan Negara president Datuk Mutang Tagal breathed his last at 11.46am today at the National Heart Institute (IJN).
Mutang began receiving treatment at IJN shortly after arriving from Azerbaijan on May 6, following a working visit that started on April 29 and returning earlier than scheduled.
The Senate president had led a Malaysian delegation to attend the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue held from May 1 to 3 in Baku.
The Senate President Office made the announcement in an official statement and details of the funeral and would be relayed later.
"The family of the deceased are thankful for the condolences and prayers given and appreciates the time given to them in facing this difficult time," the statement read.
Mutang Tagal, 69, has been elected as the 20th Speaker of the Senate President was sworn in on Feb 19.
He was the first Orang Ulu to be appointed Dewan Negara president and served as a Member of Parliament for Bukit Mas, Sarawak from 1982 to 1990.
He left behind his wife Datin Ho May Leng and three children.
