No CCTV at location where Safiq Rahim's car window was smashed

JOHOR BAHRU - There are no closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at the location where Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) player Safiq Rahim was attacked, last night.

Johor Baru South police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said police were still seeking for witnesses of the incident to assist in the investigation.

"The victim's vehicle was also found not to have a dashcam installed. Similarly, inspections revealed that there are no CCTVs in the area where the incident occurred.

"However, the police are actively seeking witnesses and so far, none have been called," he said in a statement, today.

Meanwhile, Raub said police were currently investigating the motive behind the attack on the JDT player.

"Initial investigation based on Safiq's report found that the incident occurred at around 10.05pm on Tuesday, near the JDT training centre in the city centre.

"The victim said that while he was driving, two unidentified individuals broke his car window using an iron rod. The suspects then reportedly showed him the weapon before fleeing on a motorcycle.

"The victim did not suffer any injuries," he added.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 426 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum five years' imprisonment or a fine or both, if convicted.

Raub also reminded the public not to speculate on the incident.

The incident which happened near the JDT training centre in Jalan Sri Gelam, last night was shared by Safiq in a social media post before it went viral.

In the post, he informed that he had lodged a police report out of concern for his safety.

The incident occurred three days after national winger Faisal Halim was attacked with acid and another player, Akhyar Rashid was robbed and assaulted at his residence about a week ago.
