GERIK - DAP hopes that Barisan Nasional (BN) will work hard to assist its candidate's victory in the Kuala Kubu Baharu state by-election.
DAP Parliament chief whip Nga Kor Ming said this was seen as returning the favour to Pakatan Harapan (PH), especially DAP, for helping the Umno candidate win during the Pelangai state by-election last year.
According to him, during the by-election, DAP tirelessly campaigned in Chinese voter areas to support the Umno candidate, leading to BN's victory in the constituency.
"The area we managed at that time achieved 98 per cent of votes from Chinese voters supporting BN. A record that has never happened in history.
"Surely we hope the same spirit will be shown in this upcoming Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.
"As the saying goes, do good and good will come back to you," he said during a press conference after conducting a work visit in conjunction with the Housing and Local Government Ministry Sentuhan Kasih programme, here, today.
He was commenting on the decision of the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) Political Development Committee not to be involved in campaign activities for the Kuala Kubu Baharu state by-election if the candidate fielded was not from BN.
Following that, the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) also made the same decision for similar reasons.
Nga who is also the Housing and Local Government Minister thanked BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and his deputy Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan for successfully resolving the issue of MCA and MIC amicably.
He said, so far, MIC, through its president, Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran, was committed to campaign to help the unity government candidate win.
"In a coalition of political parties, we cannot only consider very narrow personal interests.
"We need to think about the future of the country, political stability and the economic prosperity expected by the people," he said.
The Kuala Kubu Baharu state by-election is set for May 11 following the death of its incumbent, Lee Kee Hiong from DAP on March 21.
