Suspect apprehended after 24 hours

KUALA LUMPUR - After more than 24 hours on the run, the suspect involved in the shooting at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Arrival Hall in Sepang has been apprehended by the police.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain confirmed the arrest.

"The suspect was arrested in Kota Bharu, Kelantan at 3pm," he told Sinar when contacted.

On Sunday, the suspect, identified as Hafizul Harawi, 38, fired two shots at his wife while she awaited the return of Umrah pilgrims.

However, one of the shots missed its target, while the other hit the bodyguard of the suspect's wife, causing serious injury.

The suspect then fled the scene with a getaway car.

Police investigations revealed that the incident stemmed from personal issues involving the suspect and his wife.

The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code and Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalty) Act 1971.
