'Mawla Amin' was scheduled to attend an event in Alor Setar last year.

ALOR SETAR - A Moroccan citizen known as 'Mawla Mohamed Amin al-Hassani' or 'Mawla Amin' by his followers had intended to hold a lecture in Kedah but was not granted permission.

Kedah State Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAIK) director Datuk Dr Abd Ghani @ Zulkifli Zainuddin said that 'Mawla Amin' was scheduled to attend an event in Alor Setar on Oct 4, 2022, but it was eventually cancelled.

He stated that there was no information regarding the organisation of any event involving the individual in the state after that date.

"Permission to deliver religious lectures will be granted to applications that do not cause any problems, especially those that may cause tension and division in society or incite deviation from the religion," he said here on Wednesday.

Ghani said that anyone who wishes to impart religious knowledge or conduct religious gatherings must have a permit or permission based on Section 84 (1) of the Administration of Islamic Law (Kedah Darul Aman) 2008.

"This regulation is not only enforced in Kedah but also other states," he said.

He added that JHEAIK has not received any official complaints regarding the existence of his active followers conducting activities in Kedah.

"However, JHEAIK constantly monitors developments from time to time.

"JHEAIK will conduct an investigation if there are any deviations from teachings according to Section 4 of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Kedah Darul Aman) 2014, regarding the offence of propagating false doctrine and Section 11 of the same enactment regarding the offence of opinions that contradict fatwas," he said.

Ghani said that if there were printed materials related to deviant teachings, Section 12 of the same enactment could be used, namely the publication of religion contrary to Shariah law.

Previously, a Moroccan man known among his followers as 'Mawla Mohamed Amin al-Hassani' or 'Mawla Amin' claimed to have a 38th lineage to Prophet Muhammad SAW.

On Tuesday, the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) confirmed that they did not receive any documentary evidence regarding 'Mawla Amin's' lineage as claimed by certain parties.

This follows a statement made by Nur Al Mustafa Malaysia in a press conference regarding 'Mawla Amin's' lineage that they had submitted documentary evidence to Jakim.

On Feb 22, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar reminded the public, especially Muslims, not to be too fanatical towards any individual, but instead to always adhere to the balance of knowledge and facts.
