SHAH ALAM - The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry (KPWKM) is committed to reviewing the aid allocation for people with disabilities (PwD), according to Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.
While she cannot confirm any specific figures at present, she acknowledged the need for discussions with relevant ministries and agencies.
"At the moment, I cannot make any promises. We are attentive and will strive to address this matter.
"Previously, through our efforts, we managed to double the assistance from RM190 to RM300.
"However, we recognise that this is still insufficient.
"Currently, individuals or families in need can receive up to RM500.
"Planning for this financial provision requires careful consideration, and we will present our proposal once it has been thoroughly discussed," she said.
Her remarks came during a live question-and-answer session as part of the 'Town Hall' programme held at the Karangkraf Group Complex.
Nevertheless, the Santubong MP stressed that her party refrains from making firm commitments on the matter due to the necessity of adhering to standard operating procedures (SOP) before determining the monthly assistance amount.
"It's crucial to understand that the individuals receiving aid are not necessarily impoverished; they are deserving recipients.
"They may not be financially deprived but may have numerous dependents. Hence, we must take these factors into account.
"Understanding the SOP is crucial to ensure that all relevant considerations are taken into perspective," she added.
