KUALA LUMPUR - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has never issued personal instructions for an investigation to be conducted on any individual holding the title 'Tun,' including the family members of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil also denied claims that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) investigations involving the family of the former prime minister on two occasions were motivated by revenge.

"The unity government did not interfere in any MACC investigations.

"All investigations are based on the law and all this is not a political revenge, as claimed by Dr Mahathir," he said.

He was commenting on Dr Mahathir's allegations that the investigation conducted by MACC's on his family was motivated by political revenge.

Fahmi clarified that although the government has never interfered in MACC's affairs, it has the right to examine matters involving public funds.

In a press conference yesterday, Dr Mahathir claimed that the purpose of MACC investigating his son, Mirzan, was to gather evidence for a court case against him.

"The Prime Minister has also said 'nothing personal about it' many times. If there is anything involving public funds, the government has the right to investigate it," he said.

Meanwhile, Dr Mahathir was advised to always reflect on himself and refrain from making statements that deliberately instill fear in the people.

Fahmi said that the former Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) chairman should not challenge Anwar to hold an election.

"Tun M lost his deposit in the Langkawi Parliament in the last election, and Anwar won in Tambun.

"So, as a statesman, he should reflect and leave a pure legacy," he said.
