SHAH ALAM - Tengku Bendahara Kelantan Tengku Muhammad Fakhry Petra has been appointed as Tengku Mahkota of Kelantan effective Jan 4.
The Kelantan State Government Gazette dated Jan 11 stated that the appointment of Tengku Muhammad Fakhry Petra received the consent from Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V.
"A meeting to discuss the appointment was held at the meeting room of the Kelantan state secretary's office in Kota Darulnaim complex at about 3.30pm on Jan 4 involving members of the Kelantan State Council.
"Complying the requirements of Clause (2) Article 27 of the Kelantan Government Constitution (Part Two), we hereby agree to offer our advice to Sultan Muhammad V to grant the title of Tengku Mahkota Kelantan to Tengku Muhammad Fakhry Petra, who is now Tengku Bendahara Kelantan," the gazette read.
The Gazette also noted that Sultan Muhamad V has revoked the title of Tengku Mahkota Kelantan which was bestowed on Tengku Muhammad Fa-iz Petra.
"This revocation is based on His Majesty's powers under Article (2) of Article 27 of the Constitution of the Establishment of the Kelantan Government (Part Two) read together with Section 47 of the Interpretation Acts 1948 and 1967," the gazette further read.
Meanwhile, when contacted by Sinar, a close source to the state government stated that official confirmation regarding this matter should ideally be obtained from the Palace.
"Yes, it is advisable to seek advice from the Palace," said the source.
As of 8pm on Wednesday, there has been no announcement or confirmation made by the Kelantan Palace.
