SHAH ALAM – A real estate agent at a property firm was terminated from employment for being disrespectful towards a potential customer due to her race.
Earlier, X user @kalvinderks_ shared screenshots and details of an incident where the agent was being disrespectful towards her.
She expressed dissatisfaction with the service provided by the agent.
"I don’t normally do this but this is completely unacceptable.
"Contacted a property agent, and his response was fine initially, but immediately after obtaining my name and race, he was rude. When I questioned him, see what he says.
"He blocked me right after,” she said in her post which garnered the attention of many on social media.
The screenshots attached to the post, showed evidence of the agent's service and mistreatment.
She said she confronted the agent over the rude behaviour, hoping for a polite response.
However, she claimed that the situation escalated when the agent said he did not want to engage with Indians and Punjabis.
Social media users who commented on the post raised questions about the credibility and professionalism of the real estate agent.
Meanwhile, the property firm, IQI Global in a statement on its website said the real estate agent has been terminated.
"In a decisive stand against racial discrimination, IQI has terminated a real estate agent (a 'Negotiator') who said he did not want to work with a potential client based on racial grounds.
"IQI investigated the incident and terminated the agent on the same day.
Kashif Ansari, who is Juwai IQI’s co-founder and group chief executive officer said that the real estate agent had acknowledged his wrongdoings and subsequently apologised through a post and video on the X platform.
"We enforce a strict zero-tolerance policy against discrimination and racism. Our commitment to a workplace that values diversity, inclusion and respect remains unwavering,” Kashif said.
