SHAH ALAM - The identities of both bribe givers and receivers need to be disclosed fairly because both actions bear the same weight of wrongdoing.
Kangar Pertubuhan Ikram Malaysia (Ikram) president Rahime Che Yen said this was due to the fact that most cases reported by the media only publicised the recipients of bribes.
"However, the givers hide behind the mistakes committed by the receivers.
"Equal punishment should be imposed on both parties and their identities should also be disclosed.
"If no one gives, certainly no one will receive bribes," he said.
Rahime said strict action should be taken against both parties so that such offences can be prevented.
"If the public knows that giving bribes carries the same punishment as receiving bribes, hopefully, it will help reduce corruption cases," he said.
