SHAH ALAM - What was meant to be a day filled with festive cheer took an unexpected turn as a hanging decorative Christmas tree fell onto a Singaporean shopper at a shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur, today.
Based on a report by Malay daily Harian Metro, the victim identified as Julius Lee, 44, was taking a photo of his wife and their three-year-old daughter near the Christmas display when the decorative tree unexpectedly descended on him.
His wife Aileen Tan, 39, said they were shocked as they did not expect such thing to happen.
"My husband was outside the merry-go-round to take a photo of me and our daughter when the tree suddenly fell. We were shocked and would never have imagined this would happen. It all happened so fast.
"Luckily my daughter was with me at that time. If she was inside the stroller, she would have been affected too. My daughter was shocked and cried when it happened,” she was reported as saying.
Tan said her husband suffered a bruise on his head and was rushed to the clinic by the mall’s management.
She said they arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday to celebrate Christmas and had planned to go shopping at the mall.
It was reported that the mall security and management acted promptly, securing the area and ensuring the safety of all shoppers.
