PETALING JAYA - The mother of a two-year-old girl, who died after she was left in a car last month, pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to a charge of negligence.
The 38-year-old trader claimed trial after the charge was read out to her before Judge Dr Syahliza Warnoh.
She was accused of committing the offence in front of a house at Jalan PJU 1A/25, Ara Damansara here, between 8am and 3.15 pm, on Nov 8.
She was charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 which provides for a fine of up to RM50,000 or imprisonment of up to 20 years, or both, upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Anis Hakimah Ibrahim suggested to the court to set bail at RM15,000 in one surety.
Lawyer Datuk Hanif Hassan appealed for leniency on the grounds that his client had given her full cooperation during the investigation of the case.
"Since the incident, she has also suffered trauma," he said.
Syahliza allowed the accused bail of RM7,000 in one surety and required her to report to the nearest police station once a month and to avoid harassing the witness.
She set Jan 30 for mention of the case. - BERNAMA
