SHAH ALAM - Umno's Secretary-General Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki asserted that his party would never agree to DAP's proposal to conduct local government elections.

According to him, there is no necessity for such elections, emphasising instead the need to focus on the people's economy and the nation's prosperity.

"The people don't need to be dragged into endless political conflicts and never-ending politics.

"In the past, MCA and the People's Movement Party of Malaysia (Gerakan) also expressed similar views, yet Umno remained in disagreement," he stated in a social media post on Facebook today.

Previously, newspapers reported that DAP Federal Territory Chairman Tan Kok Wai proposed to the government to conduct Local Goverment Elections (PBT) in Kuala Lumpur.

The Cheras Member of Parliament mentioned that introducing such elections aims to ensure sustainability and offer residents choices in electing their local council members.

Kok Wai pointed out that implementing these elections could begin in Kuala Lumpur, as the area greatly requires democracy in the process of democratising the administration system of the capital city.
