SHAH ALAM - Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu pays a courtesy visit to the Karangkraf Group here, on Thursday.
He was welcomed by Karangkraf Group Advisor Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub, Sinar Karangkraf Group Chief Executive Officer Farah Hussamuddin and Sinar Karangkraf Group Editor-in-Chief Zamri Rambli.
During the visit, he was briefed and taken to see the editorial operations of the Sinar Harian newspaper and portal before being taken to the studio for the recording of a special interview session.
Mohamad said so far he was satisfied with the role played by Sinar Harian as an independent and neutral newspaper.
He said the media needed to provide information on what the government was working on and doing.
"The media has to report what the government is doing. If the people understand, they do not need to depend on perception, slander and so on.
"When the election comes they will choose a party or a worthy candidate," he told Sinar.
Mohamad added that there were many government efforts that the people were still not aware of, for example, the allocation to upgrade the infrastructure and irrigation system in areas under the Young Agricultural Development Board (MADA) which involves a cost of about RM3 billion.
"It can also indirectly improve the standard of living of farmers, 90 percent of whom are Malays," he said.
He also thanked Sinar for being able to cooperate with the ministry in providing information related to current issues including information related to food supply and safety.
