SHAH ALAM – Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad says that he has lose faith in civilisation because no action was taken to stop the massacre that takes place in the Gaza Strip since Oct 7.
He said the humanitarian crisis that claimed thousands of Palestinian lives by Zionist regime seemed to go unnoticed by the world.
"The whole world is watching the incident on television but did nothing to stop the mass murder.
"How can we claim to be civilised but the genocide is allowed to happen when it is known to the world community, but no action is taken to uphold the truth about the rights possessed by humans, which is the right to life," he said in a statement on Facebook today.
International media reported that Israel continued its brutal attacks on Gaza after a seven-day ceasefire that began on Nov 24 was implemented, claiming that Hamas had violated the ceasefire by firing at the Israeli territory.
In the meantime, the Gaza Health Ministry also reported that at least 15,899 Palestinians were killed while more than 42,000 others were injured in Israeli air and ground attacks since the conflict on Oct 7.
Dr Mahathir said the attack was carried out randomly without mercy and targeted all groups regardless of men, women, infants, disabled people including patients in hospitals.
"Today, more than 16,000 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed. Gaza City has been destroyed. People do not have a roof over their heads.
"They live in the open because they cannot even stay in hospitals and schools. They are being destroyed by Israel," he said.
