BUKIT GANTANG - Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) members in Bukit Gantang are calling on their MP, Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal, to resign following his declaration of support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Bukit Gantang Bersatu Division chief Ahmad Man said Syed Abu Hussin's actions have betrayed the people's mandate and damaged the democratic system.
He stressed that as an Opposition MP, Syed Abu Hussin should play a watchdog role in the government's administration with honesty and transparency.
"MPs should support the government based on the interests of the people, rather than blindly backing the Prime Minister.
"If Syed Abu Hussin is so confident in his support for the Madani Government, he should resign and contest again under the Pakatan Harapan (PH) or Barisan Nasional (BN) ticket," Ahmad Man said during a press conference at the Kuala Sepetang State Assembly Service Center near Simpang today.
Ahmad Man also expressed concern that if all Opposition MPs followed Syed Abu Hussin's example and switched their support to the government for personal gains, it would undermine the democratic system.
He cited the recent state elections in six states, which showed that the people still supported Perikatan Nasional (PN) even though it was not in the Federal Government.
"We hope that the party's highest council will not remain silent on this issue and will take immediate action against Syed Abu Hussin and the four other Bersatu MPs who have expressed support for the Prime Minister.
"They should be reminded of their duty as Opposition MPs and should not betray the people's trust," he said.
Syed Abu Hussin's declaration of support for Anwar came after he requested allocations for his constituency, including RM30 million for the maintenance of Tabika Kemas, community economic development, and social amenity facilities.
He also sought funding for the installation of village street lights and rural road circles, as well as village development projects in the constituency.
