SHAH ALAM - Seputeh MP Teresa Kok will be suing Kepala Batas MP Siti Mastura Muhammad for defamation after the Pas MP failed to respond to her letter of demand.
The lawsuit stems from Siti Mastura's remarks during a Pas programme in Kemaman, Terengganu, where she claimed that DAP chairperson Lim Guan Eng was related to Communist Party of Malaya leader Ong Boon Hua, known as Chin Peng, and former Singapore prime minister Lee Kuan Yew.
Kok, who is the second DAP lawmaker to take legal action against Siti Mastura, had demanded in her letter of demand that Siti Mastura unequivocally retract her "slanderous" and "libellous" words and issue an unconditional apology.
She also demanded that Siti Mastura pay RM10 million in damages and submit a letter of undertaking not to make the same allegations again.
Siti Mastura's lawyer Ahmad Amzar Ahmad Azlan acknowledged receiving the letter of demand but said they have yet to go through it.
Kok's lawsuit follows similar legal action taken by Guan Eng, who is suing Siti Mastura for making similar allegations against him.
Siti Mastura has maintained her claims, saying that she has handed over "reference material" for her allegations to the police.
