AWANG is not questioning the caliber of some MPs in the Dewan Rakyat today.
He acknowledges that some MPs gained their seats riding the wave of popularity for their party.
He cites the example of Dr Siti Mastura Muhammad from Kepala Batas, a newcomer who rose to prominence unexpectedly.
Awang believes she, like many others in Perikatan Nasional (PN), was surprised by her victory.
In the 10th General Election (GE10), new faces emerged from all parties. In Siti Mastura's case, perhaps her victory has inflated her sense of importance, leading her to make unsubstantiated claims, such as alleging a family connection between DAP Chairman Lim Guan Eng and Malayan Communist Party leader Chin Peng.
Her PhD degree has also been questioned.
Awang observes that in politics, people sometimes make outlandish statements, and degrees may be overlooked in favor of saying what people want to hear.
He wholeheartedly agrees with the renowned podcaster Tuk Kamal Hijaz, who sympathises with Siti Mastura.
Kamal believes she needs to be better informed about politics and should base her statements on facts.
Her party should also provide guidance on political ethics and rules.
