SHAH ALAM –The High Court here will deliver its verdict on the case of Muar Member of Parliament Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman who is facing four charges of abetting in criminal breach of trust (CBT), misappropriation of property and money laundering in connection to Angkatan Bersatu Anak Muda (Armada) funds, tomorrow.
The decision were expected to be delivered by Judge Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid at 9am.
Following is the chronology of Syed Saddiq’s CBT case:
July 22, 2021: Syed Saddiq was charged with two counts of criminal breach of trust and one count of misappropriating RM120,000 of party election funds in 2018.
August 2021: Syed Saddiq was charged with two corruption charges of money laundering.
March 14, 2022: The defense team closed its case after calling four witnesses, including Syed Saddiq
June 21, 2022: Syed Saddiq appeared in court to face trial for misuse of funds and criminal breach of trust.
September 27, 2022: The prosecution closed its case after calling 30 witnesses, which included Syed Saddiq's parents and former Armada assistant treasurer Rafiq Hakim Razali.
October 28, 2022: The High Court found that the prosecution had succeeded in proving a prima facie case against Syed Saddiq, and he was ordered to enter his defense on four charges of misappropriation of assets, money laundering, and abetting in criminal breach of trust
November 9, 2023: The High Court will decide whether to acquit or convict Syed Saddiq on charges of abetting in criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of property, and money laundering.
So far, Syed Saddiq has pleaded not guilty to all charges and is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
