KUALA LUMPUR –The Palestinian Ambassador to Malaysia Walid Abuali expresses his gratitude to Malaysians for their efforts in boycotting products, brands and franchises related to Israel following the ongoing occupation of Gaza.
He said that the support indirectly helped the Palestinian’s cause and alleviated their suffering.
He added that it was the responsibility of Malaysians and the international community to raise awareness, which was achieved through the power of social media where information about businesses that supported Israel was being widely disseminated.
"Malaysians, Palestinians, Arabs, Muslims, and all those who believe in human rights and democracy should take the step of boycotting support for Israel.
"When you buy a Starbucks coffee, you are indirectly supporting an Israeli soldier involved in the actions against Palestinians.
"Similarly, when you visit McDonald's or any other franchise in Malaysia and purchase a hamburger, you are indirectly supporting Israel.
"This is what people need to comprehend and Malaysians need to increase their awareness," Walid said during a press conference held at the Palestinian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur today.
Economically, he added that Israel felt the impact of the boycott, as search engine trends indicated a recent decline in its sales.
This economic pressure on Israel was seen as a means to prompt the Israeli government to reconsider its policies, particularly those related to its actions towards Palestine.
