BAGAN SERAI - A woman dies while two are injured in an accident between a bus and five lorries at kilometre 200.4 of the North-South Expressway southbound near Gunung Semanggol here on Thursday.
The Kamunting Fire and Rescue Station received the call on the incident at 11.33am.
Perak Malaysia Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said early information found the incident occurred when a lorry carrying oil palm ridden by the victim with two others had crashed into the back of a bus carrying six passengers.
He said the collision caused a four lorry accident to occur from the same direction.
"The victim was confirmed to be dead at the scene. A man and child who were in the same lorry suffered injuries,” he said in a statement here.
He said the bus passengers were reported as safe and they were transferred to a different bus to continue their journey.
He said his personnel conducted a review of all the vehicles in the area to ensure there were no traces of matters that could cause a fire.
"The operations ended at 1.11pm,” he said.
The accident caused the traffic flow from Bukit Merah to Taiping Utara to come to a crawl due to the blocked lane.
