JOHOR BAHRU - Malaysia suffered their second defeat in the Sultan Of Johor Cup (SOJC) International Hockey competition after going down 2-3 to Pakistan in a Group B match at the Taman Daya Hockey Stadium, here tonight.
The defeat saw Malaysia drop to the bottom of the Group B table without any points.
Pakistan, coached by Roelant Oltmans who had once coached Malaysia, took the lead in the 13th minute through Abuzar’s field goal before Arbaz Ahmad made it 2-0 in the 21st from a penalty corner strike.
Just three minutes (24th) later Pakistan were leading 3-0 when penalty corner specialist Muhammad Khan converted yet another penalty corner.
Malaysia under Muhamad Amin Rahim fought back gamely and managed to reduce the deficit in the 47th minute through Shahmie Irfan Suhaimi while Shafiq Ikhmal Daniel Suzaini scored the second in the 51st minute to restore some pride.
Meanwhile, in a Group A match played earlier, Germany edged Great Britain 4-3 and Australia whipped South Africa 4-0.
