ALOR GAJAH - The Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) has given an assurance that the party will help to campaign for the candidate from the party representing the Unity Government in the Kemaman parliamentary by-election in Terengganu this December.
Its president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran said this was as proof of the party's commitment and support for the Unity Government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
"Even though the number of Indian voters (in the Kemaman parliamentary constituency) is small, we will help (the candidate) from the Unity Government coalition," he told reporters after officiating at the 77th Melaka MIC Delegates Conference which was also attended by his deputy Datuk Seri M. Saravanan and Melaka MIC chairman V.P. Shanmugam.
The Election Commission (EC) has fixed polling day for the Kemaman parliamentary by-election on Dec 2. Nomination day is on Nov 18, while early voting is on Nov 28.
The Kemaman by-election is being held following a decision by the Terengganu Elections Court last Sept 26 annulling PAS candidate, Che Alias Hamid’s victory in the 15th general election.
