SHAH ALAM - Founder and owner of D'Herbs Holding Sdn. Bhd Datuk Seri Aliff Syukri Kamarzaman, is currently under the spotlight, yet again, facing criticism from netizens for his recent social media post.
In his post, Aliff shared a video expressing support for Palestine while also promoting headscarves.
"We long for freedom, YaAllah, save Palestine. Only to you do we surrender. Ira is showcasing the latest hijab from @as.hijabofficial at the current price of RM19.90 (original price: RM59). Get it on the market soon," he stated in his post.
While the product he promoted did not receive criticism, social media users pointed out that the businessman should not use the Palestinian plight as a marketing tool to promote thrir products.
A user @__rsee said "Please don't turn Palestine into a marketing tool for people to buy, let's be honest about everything. Thank you."
Another user @darkviolet_ee pointed out that Aliff should have used another way to promote the scarves instead of using Palestinian issue.
Meanwhile @asyiqin_tarmizi said Aliff should have respected the Palestinians.
"Datuk please don’t (use Palestinians plight) for marketing like this, respect our brothers and sisters there. You want to sell scarves but under the pretext of Palestine,” she said.
Apart from that, social media users also criticised his choice of using Ira Kazar as the model of the scarves, considering the latter’s controversial marriage with film director Syamsul Yusof.
In a previous Instagram post that stirred controversy, Malaysian fashion entrepreneur and dUCk founder Vivy Yusof faced criticism for their latest collection, 'The Palestine dUCk,' which was intended to express solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
Some members of the public accused dUCk and Vivy Yusof of using the suffering of the Palestinian people as a mere form of ‘aesthetic.’
Despite criticisms thrown at its Palestine dUCk collection, the Duck Group managed to garner RM600,000 funds to help the Palestinians in Gaza.
In an Instagram post, the modest fashion brand said the donation will be channelled via Viva Palestina Malaysia (VPM) to help with fueling hospitals, medical supplies, temporary shelter and food for the people of Palestine.
