SHAH ALAM – It was a soundbite that has been said before and today at its 69th annual meeting, Pas has orated it again: that those of Perikatan Nasional (PN) must be ever prepared to take over the reins in Putrajaya in the nearest future.
In his welcoming speech of the party’s Muktamar, held here today, Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan voiced such a call as he urged Pas members to continue working hard for the party.
"We need to work extra hard and always be prepared and ready to take over the Federal Government soon. This is because the government of the day is a failed one.
"They have consistently failed to solve the people's and the country's problems.
"They talk the talk but don’t walk the talk,” Takiyuddin bellowed amid a thunderous applause from the floor.
His remark reaffirmed Pas’ stance that the party has no intention of joining the Unity Government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who reportedly recently extended an invitation to the Islamist party.
Takiyuddin also implored party members to use this year’s Muktamar as a platform to discuss, debate and formulate plans for Pas’s mission to political victory.
"This Muktamar is the most apt avenue for us to build plans and processes of party’s victory so that we can be an effective opposition in Parliament,” he said.
Pas' 69th Muktamar begins today and will conclude on Sunday.
