SHAH ALAM - The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has refuted claims of involvement in the recent endorsement of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim by Kuala Kangsar MP, Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid.
MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki denied the allegations, stressing they were unfounded and aimed at tarnishing the MACC's reputation.
"Accusations from Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin that we influenced the Kuala Kangsar MP's decision are baseless.
"We are in no way connected to his statement," he was quoted by The Star.
On Friday, Perikatan Nasional (PN) alleged that Iskandar had pledged support to the government following threats from a high-ranking official of a state-linked agency.
PN Secretary-General Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin detailed an alleged meeting between the parliamentarian and the official in a hotel in Damansara on Oct 1.
He claimed Iskandar was coerced into endorsing the government, with threats of corruption charges, if he did not publicly declare his support.
