JOHOR BAHRU - Econsave Cash & Carry Sdn Bhd (Econsave) and Humanitarian Care Malaysia (MyCare) Johor have launched a Gaza Emergency Fund with a targeted contribution of RM500,000.
MyCare Board of Trustees member Assoc Prof Dr Mohd Zin Kandar said that the fund is to supply an assortment of essential items, especially medical aid.
He said the fund collection will be carried out by the 94 Econsave supermarket branches nationwide.
"On Friday (Oct 13), a total of RM50,000 worth of medical aid was distributed through MyCare in Gaza.
"More aid is being managed by the MyCare headquarters in Malaysia and coordinated by the MyCare headquarters in Gaza," he told a press conference here yesterday, which was also attended by Econsave general manager Mas Imran Adam.
Mohd Zin, who is also the MyCare Johor advisor, said continuous aid needs to be provided as the winter season, which is expected at the end of October, will only add to the sufferings of the people of Palestine, who are being attacked by Israel.
The recent clashes in Palestine involving Hamas, the ruling authority in Gaza, and the Israeli regime have resulted in the loss of hundreds of lives on both sides since Oct 7. - BERNAMA
