KANGAR - The Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail advised syariah lawyers to prioritise the interests of justice and uphold the principle of integrity in carrying out their duties to safeguard the image of Islam and their profession.
He said besides having to be proficient in Islamic law, they should also master civil law.
"This is important because sometimes issues that are decided in the Syariah Court are also related to civil laws, such as the Federal Constitution, the National Land Code1965, the Employees Provident Fund Act 1991, the Pensions Act 1980,” said Tuanku Syed Faizuddin at the accreditation ceremony for Syariah lawyers in the state here today.
He said Syariah lawyers must be trustworthy and honest and have good intentions to uphold justice demanded by the religion and adhere to ethics in accordance with the Syariah Court Practise Directions No.4 of 2002.
Syariah lawyers should also focus on resolving a case in a short time without neglecting the principle of justice and maintain the confidentiality of their client's case so that it is not leaked to the public and the media. - BERNAMA
