BENTONG - In the aftermath of the Pelangai state seat by-election in Pahang, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail addressed the modest majority percentage, deeming it typical for a by-election.
Wan Rosdy made these remarks at a press conference held at the Dewan Orang Ramai Felda Kemasul following the announcement of the election results which saw Barisan Nasional (BN) winning against Perikatan Nasional (PN) by a majority of 2,949 votes.
"What's important is that the people have chosen us.
"The triumphant win is a testament to the maturity and wisdom of the Pelangai electorate in making their choice for the most deserving representative to voice their concerns,” he said.
In the polls, BN’s candidate Datuk Amizar Abu Adam won the three-way contest, 7,324 votes against PN’s Kasim Samat who garnered 4,375 votes and independent candidate Haslihelmy DM Zulhasni who only earned a meagre amount of 47 votes.
In addition, Wan Rosdy extended his appreciation to the dedicated efforts of both the BN and Pakatan Harapan (PH) machineries at the national and local levels, who tirelessly campaigned for two weeks.
He also thanked Umno President Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi for entrusting him with the role of BN machinery director for the Pelangai by-election.
"We extend our sincere appreciation to the Umno president, Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi, for his trust in appointing me as the BN machinery director for this Pelangai- by-election.
"I have wholeheartedly carried out this responsibility, along with my team,” he added.
The Pelangai by-election needed to be called due to the death of its former assemblyman the late Datuk Seri Johari Harun who perished in the infamous Elmina plane crash in Shah Alam, Selangor, on August 17.
