JOHOR BAHRU - The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has issued a notice to a seafood stall operator at a food court here accused of charging her customer an exorbitant price for a family meal recently.
Johor KPDN director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo the notice was issued at 5.30pm under Section 12 of the Consumer Protection Act for misleading pricing and Section 21 of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 that requires the stall operator to provide information for calculations to determine if elements of profiteering exist in the incident.
"The trader was given four days from yesterday to respond by providing justification and detailed information...to verify the claim made by the customer...to prevent any arising issue,” she told Bernama when contacted tonight.
Meanwhile, Lilis Saslinda denied that the stall was ordered to cease operation, adding that KPDN is conducting further investigations.
"Why is the trader still operating? We have no authority in that matter. I urge the public not to make inaccurate statements that could tarnish the image of Johor KPDN,” she said.
On Tuesday, a 26-second video and a photo of a receipt of the meal totalling RM1,260 was posted on the Instagram account belonging to Nora' Asikin Rahmat or Ekin who claimed that the total cost of the meal was too expensive.
