KUALA LUMPUR - A total of 200 asnaf (eligible tithe recipients) received an additional basic necessities aid of RM150 per month through e-wallet from the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) during the Santun Kasih MAIWP programme at the Seri Kota PPR, Bandar Tun Razak, here today.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said the initiative represents a digital technology transformation in distributing zakat through a cashless distribution mechanism to the group.
"This initiative aids asnaf in purchasing daily essentials such as chicken and vegetables. God willing, this basic necessities assistance will be increased from RM150 to RM300 starting next year," he said in a statement issued by MAIWP today.
Recipients can conveniently make payments using the Boost app through QR codes at participating supermarkets such as Mydin, Sam’s Groceria (Nu Sentral), and Labuan Supermarket, as well as on the MYGrocer mobile truck. The truck will operate daily at PPR around the capital from 8.30 am to 1 pm.
Since its introduction in January 2022 until July 2023, a total of 21,898 eligible asnaf have benefitted from the assistance, involving an expenditure of RM30.45 million, Mohd Na'im said.
He added that the Zero Hunger assistance initiative represents MAIWP's commitment to easing the financial strain on the asnaf community, enabling them to afford daily essentials and improving their purchasing ability in line with the Al-Falah Transformation Plan, which focuses on welfare and social well-being. - BERNAMA
