SHAH ALAM - Melaka Rural Development, Agriculture, and Food Security Exco Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh said the authority given to him is not for himself but to benefit the people.
He also stressed that he would not budge even an inch to defend the people's rights in the issue of local rice supply.
"You want 'war'? Bring it on," he wrote briefly in a Facebook post today.
Akmal yesterday fended off criticism by former MCA vice president Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker, who had allegedly threatened to cancel the manufacturers' licence if they refused to sell local rice at the price set by the government.
He advised Ti to keep quiet if he was not aware of the problems faced by the people.
Prior to that, a three-minute video showing the Umno Youth leader carrying out surprise checks at two rice factories in Malacca last Monday had gone viral.
In the clip, Akmal also warned the manufacturers to sell rice at the price set by the government, and if they failed, he would not hesitate to withdraw the factories' licence.
