KUALA NERUS - Pas is confident in winning a large majority if a Kemaman Parliamentary by-election is held.
Its vice president Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said the party was prepared to face the possibility of it occurring due to the nation’s political landscape.
"InsyaAllah, if a Kemaman by-election is held (we will win with a larger majority) based on the current ‘mood’,” he said when met by reporters after attending the State Maulidur Rasul Celebration at the Gong Badak Closed Stadium here on Thursday.
When asked whether candidates would remain or if there were other candidates, he said the matter would be decided in a Central Pas Committee Member meeting.
He added Pas had yet to decide whether it would present the appeal regarding the Election Court’s decision to annul the victory of Kemaman MP Che Alias Hamid in the 15th general election (GE15).
Samsuri said it would be decided in the meeting soon.
"Currently there are no details on the meeting as the party is waiting for the written judgment to be released.
"We don’t know yet (whether to make an appeal or not), we will wait for the written judgment from the judge to observe what was decided.
"Pas would then make a decision, we hope Monday will show the results of the written judgment,” he said.
The Terengganu Election Court on Tuesday annulled the victory of Che Alias in GE15 for the Parliamentary seat.
Judge Datuk Anselm Charles Fernandis made the decision after he found elements of bribes toward voters during the campaign period.
Che Alias in the elections defeated three other candidates including former Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said with a majority of 27,179 votes.
